Manage the overall operations of BERG Power Engineers, Inc. including project coordination, scheduling, personnel and budget management.

Oversee the engineering and design of all major projects being undertaken by BERG Power Engineers, Inc.

Perform short circuit calculations, protective relay coordination and take charge of all plan check requirements of institutional, commercial and industrial establishment projects.

Involved in the design of electrical power systems, safety & technology systems, fire alarm systems at the following facilities: DWP, LAUSD, Southern California Edison, PG&E, City of Anaheim, City of Azusa, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Northrop Grumman, GTE, UCLA, Southern California Gas, Metropolitan Water District, Saint Bernardine Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Hospital and other commercial and industrial establishments.

Group Leader - Substation Control and Wiring Division

Oversee the preparation of control schemes, metering, relaying and connection diagrams of various Southern California Edison substation projects.

Conducted various electrical systems studies, protective relaying and coordination, load flow analysis, and short circuit calculations.

Involved as consultant in the successful completion of the Energy Management System (EMS) project for various substations and facilities of Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

Supervised a total of twelve electrical engineers and designers.

Major assignments includes:

  • Designs of various 500KV, 220KV, 115KV, 66KV and 12KV substations for Southern California Edison Company.
  • Technical audit of the overall electrical system protection and control of the two-unit Springville Coal Fired Generating Station including the switchyard-relaying interface.
  • Protective relaying design of main generator, power transformer and auxiliary transformer, Korea 7 & 8 Nuclear Power Plant. Verifies the design integrity of control schemes, protective relaying and coordination and annunciation systems for the Korea 5, 6, 7 and 8 nuclear power plants.
  • Prepared construction and equipment specifications, bid evaluation and vendor submittal review.
  • Design the complete control and protection of a 138kV substation in Venezuela and participated in training engineers on how to design substations.

Superintendent - Utility Power System Protection Department

Art served as Senior Protection Engineer for more than ten years before his promotion as Superintendent of Power System Protection Department. His duties and responsibilities were as follows:

  • Performed short circuit calculation, relay setting and coordination, systems start-up and testing.
  • Developed engineering standards for protecting transmission and distribution lines, transformers, generators and all other major electrical equipment.
  • Performed engineering investigations, analysis, and studies to improve the performance of protective relaying system for the entire power utility system with over one hundred twenty substations and with maximum demand of more than 2,500 MW.
  • Supervised testing of major electrical equipment and provided technical support to large customers. Coordinated in the implementation of energy conservation and power factor improvement program on large institutional, commercial and industrial customers.
  • Responsible in training of engineers and designers that were assigned at the Power System Protection Department.
